Yeah! I said it!

Let’s do the thing!
Now that I have some of my artwork posted…hi, everyone! Welcome to my art blog!
My name is Laurel, and I have always loved drawing since I was a little girl. My artistic expression has taken a lot of different shapes over the years, but I always seem to come back to drawing. These days, a lot of what I do tends to be digital art, but I am not against a good old pencil and paper sketch, or occasionally trying my hand at some painting. If it’s creative? I’m in!
This blog is meant to a) motivate myself to practice more art, b) have a place to show off my skills, and c) show a side of myself that I don’t always let people see. This will be fun!
Kick back and enjoy the ride, friends!

I don’t only do digital art…sometimes, I work with real media!

Perhaps posting this is cheating…I actually did this at Studio 614 in a BYOB and paint class. It just happens to be one of my favorite pictures in my house! They use real canvas, which is much more substantial to hang than what you usually get from wine and paint classes. This is the Columbus Skyline, and I really love how it turned out.

When thinking of how to decorate my home after I bought it, I decided I wanted every room to have a theme. My basement, aka my “lady cave,” is full of artwork done by either myself or friends. This was a piece inspired by musical score art on Etsy. I wanted something nerdy without being so obvious. Since I was a choir/theater kid in high school, and because I still love musical theater, this really appealed to me. What is the song you ask? It’s my favorite song from my favorite video game:
In the game (SPOILERS!), this track plays when the main character hits his rock bottom, and his friends help pull him out of it. I really appreciate how much this track captures that feeling, and it serves as a nice reminder that your friends have your back.
Happy Saturday!

If you’ve never played the Shovel Knight games, you absolutely have to! They are available on multiple platforms and are so, so good. I drew this prior to body swap mode being available in the main Shovel Knight campaign. I’m still in love with this picture!

I did this as a gift for my friends! This is one of their two cats, Floof. Real talk–fur is hard to color!

I attempted two different things for me with this picture: A more realistic facial structure (using a photo of a random Pinterest model) and coloring without an outline. Lots and lots of trial and error.
